Sandtray Therapy

Sometimes what’s hard to say becomes easier to show

Sandtray therapy is a gentle, expressive form of psychotherapy that uses a tray of sand and a collection of small figures and objects to help people explore their inner world.

Instead of relying only on words, clients are invited to create scenes in the sand that represent their thoughts, feelings, relationships, or life experiences. This process allows emotions and experiences that may be difficult to talk about to be expressed visually and symbolically.

As the scene takes shape, patterns, conflicts, and strengths often become clearer, providing meaningful insight and a deeper understanding of what is happening beneath the surface. One of the strengths of Sandtray therapy is that it can be used effectively with people of all ages, from young children to adults.

For children, it offers a natural and developmentally appropriate way to communicate; for teens and adults, it provides a powerful way to access emotions, memories, and internal experiences that may feel hard to put into words. Because it engages both the imagination and the nervous system, Sandtray can support healing from trauma, anxiety, grief, and relationship challenges in a way that feels contained and safe. The goal is not to create something “right,” but to allow the inner world to be seen, understood, and gently transformed through the therapeutic process.
